LINNEY Approaches Love with Caution on "Alone Tonight" Release

Following the pop perfect "Coming Back For More", the Taylor Swift-sounding "That Night" and two equally impressive extended plays - Things We Say and Things We Do, independent singer-songwriter LINNEY jumped on the radar, promoting a refreshing, authentic alternative to generic pop music. A former country-inspired artist turned another vying for attention in the competitive dance/pop world, LINNEY immediately set herself apart with lush vocal performances, a bubbly personality and narrative stories that her growing fan base could easily relate to.

Shared as a free download for days leading up to Christmas (it's the spirit of giving after all), the artist's latest release, "Alone Tonight", continues to highlight LINNEY's ability to convey a sense of reality as she explains her reasons for approaching a desired love with restraint and caution. Though not necessarily a representation of what's to come from her future projects, the single does showcase the complex mix of emotions one might experience during a vital, precise moment in time.

Stripped back and kept relatively simple compared to her previous uptempo pop productions, the decision to focus all attention on vocals and sentiment with "Alone Tonight" were intentional. LINNEY's willingness to share in her first experience of falling in love, wanting to preserve that innocent moment in time, is conveyed by the new song's dreamy and tranquil overall atmosphere. If the artist's, and producer Jeff Schoeny's, idea was to get lost in a specific memory, they've easily succeeded.

Just as she might have felt travelling home for the recent Christmas holiday, LINNEY must come to terms with treasured moments she had previously left behind. "So let’s relive this one more night, five years later you still drive, that beat-up truck I always liked, I won't let you fall asleep tonight", she beautifully sings as a flood of memories begin to link the past with the present, resulting in the realization that not much has changed over the years.

"['Alone Tonight'] is about a period of time where I felt so close to someone and experienced something so beautiful that I couldn’t bare to risk the chance of breaking it by moving past anything more than an intention," LINNEY opens up about the song's inspiration. "Like there’s an invisible line drawn between two people that is never seen, only felt. It’s too special to tarnish with complications. So you lie in bed next to them and never even touch them but hold your breath the whole night."

As she continues to make a name for herself with energetic dance collaborations and honest covers of today's biggest hits, it's LINNEY's original material, like "Alone Tonight", that give the most revealing glimpses at her effective, organic style. There's a soothing, reflective quality to her voice and message that could be the greatest asset on her way to more mainstream exposure.

"If it doesn’t open, it’s not your door. Everything happens for a reason," the artist says of her new single. "Your memories allow the people you loved to exist as the best version of themselves. Don’t cry because it’s over. Smile because it happened."
