Polish Days: Sentimental

It is time again for the Polish Days monthly challenge. This month's theme is 'sentimental' with the challenge to create a manicure featuring a special polish that makes you sentimental or something that tugs at your heart strings. I had to go with something from the heart. Many of you know and I've mentioned it before on this blog, that I was born in Russia. My family left more than 20 years ago to move to the US and I actually have not gone back since. I often get sentimental when it comes to traditional Russian objects. One such thing is a traditional doll Matryoshka. I hope you'll enjoy this manicure which represents something very dear to me...

My original intent was to create a manicure with a full Matryoshka per nail, similar to what NancyMe has done, but over the weekend I broke a nail so I had to improvise. As they say, sometimes necessity is the mother of invention. I decided to "open" the Matryoshkas up putting the bottom on my thumb and the tops on the rest of the fingers. That way I can "open" and "close" my Matryoshkas. For once I'm happy I broke a nail because I love how this turned out...

For the manicure I used a base of OPI My Very First Knockwurst to create a neutral background. The rest of the colors are acrylic paints which I find much easier to work for this type of manicure...

Here are all the little Matryoshkas matched up to the base... some are a bit more twisted than others as my thumb only goes so far ;)...

I would love to know what you think of this manicure and what tugs at  your heart strings?...
