NIGERIA: BOKO HARAM INSURGENTS ATTACK MAIDUGURI, BORNO STATE

Suspected Boko Haram militants on Wednesday attacked the northern city of Maiduguri in Borno State from a cashew plantation close to the Giwa barracks.
Residents heard the heavy shooting and explosions on the outskirts and began fleeing their homes.
A local resident by name Kabir Olaoye told Reuters, "I'm trapped near the University of Maiduguri". The shooting started around 6.45pm.
Borno State is the birthplace of the jihadi group who have killed several thousands of people and displaced more.
Maiduguri has not experienced any attack since  two major take over attempts in late January and early February and several bombings in March.
The Nigerian military  after launching ground offensive on Sambisa forest, the last stronghold of Boko Haram had the group on the run.
See photos below of residents of Maiduguri running for their lives following yesterday's attack.
