On Friday, Twitter bosses said Katy Perry reached the milestone after her Twitter followers reached 90 million. The company made the official announcement via their own profile on the site. The message said it was party time and with the singer's 90 million on the guest list, they were going to need a massive dance floor.
Katy Perry's list of followers beats out other celebrities with massive followings. This includes singer Taylor Swift, who currently has around 79 million followers on Twitter. Justin Bieber has around 83 million followers, which means Katy Perry also has more followers than him.
The pop singer is very active on Twitter, which is probably why it's not a surprise that she has amassed a giant following on the site. Katy Perry Tweets about a lot of things, including what she eats, advocating political action and she promotes her favorite music. Recently, she took to Twitter to encourage people to vote for Hillary Clinton, who is running for president of the United States of America. She has also been known to share spiritual Tweets, as well as funny Tweets. One time she shared a photo of herself in a purple hoodie, describing herself as a "Belieber" and it was re-tweeted 90,000 times.

Breaking the record for having the most followers on Twitter is impressive, but it's not the first time the singer has made history on social media. The 31-year-old made internet history when she released her music video for Dark Horse. That video received 1 billion views on Vevo, making it the first video by a female singer to reach that many.
Shortly after that, Katy Perry's video for Roar broke the 1 billion mark on Vevo. Asides from achieving records on social media, she is known for her work towards positive change as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador.
